Mens Fashion For the Fall/Winter For 2010

In the twenty years since launching its men's-wear line with a runway full of chunky sweaters, Dolce & Gabbana has become synonymous with razor-sharp tailoring. Now, for their twentieth-anniversary collection, the designers are returning to their roots with knockout knitwear like this wool-and-cotton belted coat.

Looking over Christopher Bailey's indomitable lineup for Burberry this fall, you'll see plenty of takes on World War II — era military uniforms as well as an army of double-breasted greatcoats, massive bomber jackets, and, of course, variations on the house's iconic trench. For more-casual outings, there's also this coated-cotton-and-canvas shearling-lined overcoat. Waterproof and warm as a furnace, it's just the thing for a man on a mission.

Like a lot of designers right now, Frida Giannini has cited her brand's heritage as a big inspiration, and it's easy to picture the Gucci man lounging in St. Moritz, circa 1970, nuzzling some frisky Swiss miss while wearing this chunky shawl-collar sweater. It's casual luxury, après-ski style, and few designers this season do it as well as Giannini.
